On an exterior, most of the value is in what happens before the first coat. A few days ahead of the job we wash the surfaces to take off dirt and cobwebs, because paint applied over either of those is already failing. Loose paint gets scraped back, surfaces sanded, and caulking and wood filler close the gaps and cracks that let moisture behind the cladding. Bare wood gets an oil-based primer that penetrates and seals instead of sitting on top. That one choice is most of why an exterior lasts or lifts.

Windows, doors and anything else not being painted are masked off completely. Drop sheets go down to catch chips and drips, so your yard is no worse for our being there.
